Unpacking my boxes

August 29, 2009

Mosques beside christian churches, with the club district in the distance, affluence one second and poverty the next, french for some and Arabic for others, Beirut -if anything- is a city of contrasts.

I struggle to put the city in a box, but I can’t. I want to put it in an Islamic culture box, a European box, even my small American box, but nothing works. Each person I talk to and see on the street is different from the next. Everyone has a different background, faith, and story.

We’ve been reading through paul’s epistles as a team, and this week in 1 Corinthians 9, he says this:
“I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.”

I want to do that here, to let Beirut and God destroy my box, to have a beautiful picture of life and the people here. I know that with that comes a bigger view of God and how He moves
around the world.

This picture is from one of the walls around the American University of Beirut.

Thanks so much for your prayers!! We love you all!

From a bridge toward the mosque at the university

Hello everyone back in OH-IO! The six of us have been enjoying our last few days here in Amman. As we think back on this last week that we have spent here I think we can all say that we’re filled with awe at how God has been directing our every step. From the people that we have come in contact with to the amazing fellowship that we are experiencing with each other as a team, our Father has been more than gracious. Right now we are spending our mornings in training with a precious team of workers living here. The way we have met them can only be explained by divine inspiration. We are learning that when you sit at the feet of your saviour and let go of all your wants and plans and ask Him to lead, He will do just that. And once you taste the sweetness of His perfect guidance and feel the security of His powerful sovereignty, it transforms the very landscape you are viewing.
We spend the afternoons on a campus as large as OSU just praying for God to bring his freedom and salvation to these future leaders of the Middle East. we And we pray with expectation for these things to take place. It is such a privilege to be used by God in such a way and to believe that prayer is a powerful tool in the building of God’s kingdom.
We fly to Beirut on Tuesday equipped with new training and hearts burning to see what God has for us next. Thank you to everyone who is praying for us back home. We love you all!

Walking in Amman

The latest here in Amman

August 19, 2009

Hello family and friends. I hope all is well wherever you are. The six of us are still currently in Amman which I myself didn’t anticipate us being here this long. Not that that is bad, actually it is a blessing, because God has CLEARLY opened a door for us that none of us could have expected. Matty mentioned in a previous post about meeting with two ministry leaders in the area on Sunday, which we did, and it was a great time with these two men. Starting tomorrow we will be partaking in some training and are sure God will do great things through it. We’re not exactly sure what it’s going to look like but we trust God has plans within it. I’m sure we’ll be able to share more about it after we’ve done it.

Also, it looks like we will be flying (not traveling by ground through Syria) to Beirut this coming Tuesday. This being something we didn’t plan for necessarily but God has definitely willed.

Thank God for giving us an array of opportunities and blessings in these past few days. Allowing us to serve two days at Mafraq, meeting people from Sweden and Holland, welcomed into a couple’s home in Irbid for mansef and fellowship, meeting past students of Matty’s and Elk’s at their graduation, having great team time tonight, and the list goes on, seriously.

Pray for the rest of our time here in Jordan and that we would take in all that God has for us. I feel like there’s a ton more to share with all the experiences I’ve had thus far and the process of adapting to a new culture, but for now I will leave it be. We will share more in the days to come for sure. Also, don’t drink the lemonade in Mafraq ;)

Take care,
David/Lambo/Fox

Welcome in Jordan!

August 19, 2009

Here are a few more pictures from our week in Jordan! The first is of a little girl and precious Flower we got to meet. Yardley and I were determined to make her like us…which of course only happened as we were saying goodbye. Pray for her and her family, who she will hopefully be going home to soon! We loved spending time with the patients and showing them Christ despite the language barrier. Please pray for another family, whose father just died of TB. The mother and her 3 youngest kids are at the hospital for tests and the older 2 are MIA. Pray that the oldest kids (who are only 5 and 7) would be found and tested for TB as well.

The second picture is Yardley and I exploiting our head coverings for a photo op. We were eating lunch in a small town and needed to cover for a few hours.

Thanks for all of your prayers!! We can definitely see God moving through them!
