Unpacking my boxes
August 29, 2009
Mosques beside christian churches, with the club district in the distance, affluence one second and poverty the next, french for some and Arabic for others, Beirut -if anything- is a city of contrasts.
I struggle to put the city in a box, but I can’t. I want to put it in an Islamic culture box, a European box, even my small American box, but nothing works. Each person I talk to and see on the street is different from the next. Everyone has a different background, faith, and story.
We’ve been reading through paul’s epistles as a team, and this week in 1 Corinthians 9, he says this:
“I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.”
I want to do that here, to let Beirut and God destroy my box, to have a beautiful picture of life and the people here. I know that with that comes a bigger view of God and how He moves
around the world.
This picture is from one of the walls around the American University of Beirut.
Thanks so much for your prayers!! We love you all!
